There are so many options of house plants that purify air and create a healthy environment in your home. While that is improving the air quality at home, it might be possible that some of those healthy air purifying plants are not a good choice for your furry friends.
Having pets is like having a baby, you always want the best for them. Creating a space with pets and plants together at home can be quite challenging. Be as well behaved fluffy may be, you just need one moment when you turned your head and a curious bite has been taken from your peace lily (yes toxic for cats and dogs). Let’s take a look at the list of home plants that are safe for your pet babies.
1.) Spider Plant: One of the easiest to grow and care for, Spider plants are beautiful and clean the air as well. They are non-toxic which makes them pet friendly as well. Spider plants can survive forgetful watering and they grow well in low light conditions, which makes them perfect for indoors with low light.
Benefits: Clears out toxic pollutants like Benzene, Carbon monoxide, Formaldehyde and Xylene from air.
2.) Phalaenopsis orchids: Apart from making your home look pretty, these flowers are actually edible. You may have seen your food garnished with orchids in a restaurant or in most places in Hawaii. Easy to care for, you can leave the orchid alone and it thrives with occasional watering and moderate light. It’s a safe plant for you kitty or doggo.
Benefits: Cleans the air of Xylene.
3.) Bamboo Palm: Add a touch of tropics to your home with the Bamboo Palm plant also known as Good Luck Palm. The feathery leaves make for a pretty décor and grow well in indirect sunlight. Palm plants like a moist soil but be careful not to overwater which can lead to rot in the roots. It’s a safe plant for your pets.
Benefits: One of the NASA approved plants, Palm plants are one of the highest air purifying plants as per NASA. Clears out formaldehyde, Xylene, Toluene and acts a natural humidifier.
4.) Barberton Daisy: Make your home pretty while purifying the air and keeping your pet safe, with these beautiful Daisy flowers. Also known as Gerbera Daisy, this plant Comes in variety of colors and increases the levels of oxygen at home. It does need ample amount of direct sunlight, so place it in a location at home with lot of direct sunlight to encourage flowers. These daisies need to be moist but not wet so be careful with watering. You can allow the soil to get tad dry before watering again. Not to miss the most important point, it’s safe for your pets.
Benefits: Removes benzene, formaldehyde, and trichloroethylene from the air and is also listed as one of the “TOP 12” green air cleaners by NASA.
Even though, the plants mentioned above are not dangerous for your pets, they can still get upset stomach from eating raw leaves. So, it’s better to keep them away.
